Rohnert Park, CA – The Sonoma County Zero Waste Symposium is Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the SOMO Village event Center in Rohnert Park, CA. The program begins at 8AM.
Sonoma County is in transition with the way waste, compost and recycling are managed. Working with new haulers Recology and Sonoma County Resource Recovery opens up many opportunities for collaboration on sustainable waste management. Recology plans to improve the contracted diversion rate, which currently stands at 36 percent, to 60 percent by 2029. Education and collaboration will be essential for these efforts to be successful.
The Sonoma Zero Waste Symposium is sponsored by many organizations who all have a stake in the success of Sonoma County’s Zero Waste Initiative. Featured sponsors include Recology, locally owned Soiland Company, R3 Consulting Group, and Sonoma County Waste Management Authority. This event will bring together numerous stakeholders including elected officials, non-profits, businesses, agriculture, and concerned citizens to discuss, learn, and engage on Zero Waste as a climate initiative and a spark for a circular economy. We will discuss ways we can manage our resources through minimizing wasting while maximizing reuse, recycling, composting, and ending wasting behaviors.
Notable presenters include keynotes Captain Charles Moore and Jared Blumenfeld, Council member Deborah Fudge, representatives from Jackson Family Wines, Straus Family Creamery and Sonoma Compost, and other regional and national leaders in Zero Waste. Session topics range from government action, to programs for organics and food recovery management, to businesses leading the way to zero waste.
At this event you will receive an update on the draft Zero Waste Resolution request for cities, the county and the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency to adopt.
