Xinci Tan

As the Organics Program Manager for the Joint Powers Authority (JPA), Zero Waste Sonoma, Xinci leads the countywide implementation of California’s SB 1383 law on short-lived climate pollutants. Xinci’s work includes helping permit and site a new composting facility, organizing annual compost giveaway events, and managing grants related to carbon sequestration and food recovery.

Before entering the compost industry, Xinci earned a B.S. in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior from the University of Minnesota. Xinci’s senior research focused on the mating behaviors of crickets. Xinci later worked with the USDA studying how environmental variability impacts plant nitrogen absorption and comparing methods to reduce fertilizer runoff.
