One Beach Plastic

Since 1999, Richard Lang and Judith Selby Lang have collaborated to collect plastic debris from Kehoe Beach in Point Reyes, gathering over two tons from a single stretch of coastline. They transform these colorful remnants of consumer waste into striking works of art that reveal the scale and beauty of ocean pollution.

With decades of individual studio practice before meeting, their influences include Bauhaus design, Japanese woodblock prints, early Cubism, and jazz. Their work has appeared in over 70 exhibitions worldwide—from SFMOMA and the Oakland Museum to international embassies and science centers.

Their story is part environmental message, part love story—infused with humor, creativity, and a shared passion for making something meaningful from discarded materials.
