Heidi Sandborn

Heidi Sanborn has been a leader in California’s solid waste industry for over 25 years, driving innovative policies to reduce waste, improve product design, and protect health. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from UC Davis and an MPA from USC. In 2007, Heidi founded the California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC), which she led to national recognition for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy. She helped pass laws for pharmaceuticals, paint, mattresses, and more, including AB 2347 and SB 1229. Heidi played a key role in Alameda County’s landmark EPR ordinance, upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, setting a national legal precedent. In 2015, she co-founded the National Stewardship Action Council, which sponsored AB 1158 to improve carpet recycling. Heidi is a global speaker, published expert, and media source featured on NPR, NBC, and in the Wall Street Journal. She continues to lead CPSC’s efforts to advance the circular economy across the U.S.
