Shelley Brown and Alan Siegle

Alan Siegle

Alan has been farming for over 45 years. From 1978 through 2000, Alan was a partner in Bennett Valley Farm. He was a co-founding partner of Sonoma Compost Company, which began in 1985 and operated the county-wide organics composting program from 1993 thru 2015. Alan served on the Sonoma County Planning Commission from 2004 to 2008 and is currently on the Board of West County Health Centers and Sonoma County Farm Trails. He presently owns and manages an organic walnut farm in Colusa County.

Shelley Brown

Shelley was a primary grade teacher for 43 years before retiring in 2016. From the time she was growing up in Sonoma when she collected bugs and frogs and tried to save every tadpole in the local creek, she has loved science. Her interest in reducing waste grows from being the child of a frugal mother who taught her the lessons learned from living through the depression. She and her husband, Alan Siegle, live in a rural community of twelve households in Forestville, where they raised their two daughters and now play with their four grandsons. Retirement offers chances to volunteer in her grandchildren’s school and with Farm Trails in its efforts to create a Zero Waste Gravenstein Apple Fair.
